A woman has died after she and a 10-year-old boy were pulled from Lake Ontario in Oakville on Monday.

Halton police were called to Coronation Park Beach around 10:30 a.m. for a report of persons in distress.

The marine unit said they were able to rescue the boy from the water while firefighters entered the lake to rescue a submerged woman.

The woman was reportedly unconscious and without vital signs when she was rescued. She received CPR and was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Halton police said the woman and boy were not related but at the park together. The 10-year-old child was not physically hurt.

No boats or paddleboards were found in the water, and it’s unknown if they were wearing lifejackets. Halton police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.

Out of respect for the families, investigators said they’re not providing any more details regarding the victims.
