2 young girls sexually assaulted in North York park; Suspect sought

Toronto police are searching for a suspect after two young girls were sexually assaulted in a North York park on Tuesday.

Police say the girls, aged 10 and 11, were in Sentinel Park in the area of Finch Avenue and Sentinel Road, when they were approached by a man on a black bicycle.

“A man riding a bicycle approached these two girls, spoke to them, circled around, and sexually assaulted both,” said Const. Victor Kwong.

Kwong said the two girls, who are friends, immediately sought help.

“The girls were physically unharmed, but that only speaks to the physical portion,” Kwong added. “The mental portion, the emotional trauma, that’s a different story.”

The suspect is described as a 40 to 60-year-old man, six-feet tall with a medium build, and hazel eyes.

He was last seen wearing a dark-green hoodie, black pants and was carrying a grey and white backpack.

Kwong said it’s too early to connect the case to a separate sex assault on Tuesday night on the Humber River Trail. In that incident the suspect was also riding a bicycle.

Kwong pointed out slight differences in the age description in the two cases, but said police aren’t ruling anything out and continue to investigate both assaults.
