1 person dies in fire at Brampton seniors complex

One person has been killed after a fire at a seniors home in Brampton. It's not clear what caused the blaze. The Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating.

One person has been died in a fire at a seniors complex in Brampton overnight.

Emergency crews were called to 53 McHardy Place, near Queen Street and McMurchy Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The fire broke out in a first floor unit. One person was transported to hospital in critical condition where they were pronounced dead. Their age and gender have not been released by police.

The fire is currently under control and fire crews have completed a search of the building. All displaced residents have been allowed back in the building.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire and the Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate.
