Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk has captured an AL Silver Slugger Award for the 2022 season.
It is the first time Kirk has won the award, given annually to the best offensive player at each position in the American and National Leagues, as determined by coaches and managers.
Kirk was the lone Blue Jay to win. Other Toronto finalists included first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., third baseman Matt Chapman, shortstop Bo Bichette, outfielder Teoscar Hernandez and outfielder/designated hitter George Springer.
Kirk is the first Blue Jays catcher to have ever won the award.
An American League All-Star last season, Kirk hit .285/.372/,415 with 14 homers and 63 RBI in 139 games.
The Blue Jays are deep at catcher with Kirk, Danny Jansen and Gabriel Moreno.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. won a Gold Glove award earlier this month for his work defensively at first base.
Guerrero Jr. was the first player in Blue Jays history to receive a Gold Glove for his work at first base. Second baseman Marcus Semien won the award last season, while starting pitcher Marcus Stroman received a Gold Glove for his slick fielding in 2017.
