Two Markham men are facing a number of charges after police rescued 16 puppies from what they say were “horrendous living conditions.”
York police say in December 2021 they were informed about the sale of a puppy with fraudulent vaccination records. In the course of the investigation, they found ads had been posted online advertising the sale of puppies for between $700 and $1,500 and that the buyers had been provided with vaccination records that were determined to be fraudulent.
Police then searched a home on Castleview Crescent in Markham on Nov. 9 and located 16 puppies stored in four small cages in what they describe as “horrendous living conditions.”
Markham Animal Services were called to take the puppies from the home and provided them with proper medical attention.
Elisha Charles, 42, and Isaiah Charles, 20, are facing several charges including willfully permitting the unnecessary pain and/or suffering to an animal as well as forgery.
