Man facing 23 charges of uttering threats against Toronto Metropolitan University members

A Hamilton man is facing multiple charges of uttering threats after online threats were made against members of the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) community.

Police say the threats were made between Nov. 26 and Nov. 27. TMU said on its website three members reported to security that an individual had sent them multiple messages “making threats towards them and the TMU community via email.”

During a search warrant executed on Nov. 28, alongside Hamilton police’s tactical unit, police seized multiple electronic devices.

Usman Suhrwardy, 39, was arrested and is facing chargers of 23 counts of uttering threats of death and bodily harm and three counts of harassment by threatening conduct to other person.

He’s expected to appear in court on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
