Boy, 17, identified as victim in east end shooting

A 17-year-old boy has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in the city’s east end on Saturday night.
Police were called to an apartment complex at 5 Massey Square, just west of Victoria Park Avenue, shortly after 7 p.m. following reports of gunshots in the area.
When they arrived they found the teen outside a building suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving measures he pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the victim as 17-year-old David Petrovic of Toronto.
A 16-year-old was located nearby with gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said prior to the shooting, Petrovic was seen in the area with several other individuals but can’t say if the shooting was targeted or a random act.
The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, according to police, but no further description has been provided at this time.
