A Toronto man is facing multiple charges in connection with two stabbings in Whitby in December, including an incident on Christmas Day, Durham Regional Police officers say.

Investigators said the first stabbing happened on Dec. 2 at around 6:30 a.m.

They said officers were called to the Brock Street South and Dunlop Street East area and found a 51-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. The victim had to be rushed to a trauma centre in Toronto.

At around 12 p.m. on Sunday, investigators said officers were called to the Brock Street South and Gilbert Street East area after a 52-year-old man was stabbed. They said the victim was taken to a Toronto trauma centre to be treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, officers said 32-year-old Arnold Chan was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of possessing a dangerous weapon.

Investigators said the accused was kept in custody pending a bail hearing. The allegations haven’t been proven in court.
