Busy stretch of Toronto now closed until Monday due to ‘potential falling hazard’

By Lucas Casaletto

A stretch of a busy downtown street is out of commission until early next week over fears of a potential falling hazard from a nearby building.

The City of Toronto says that Adelaide Street East will be closed from Yonge to Victoria Street as a precaution due to an antenna leaning from the top of a 24-storey residential building.

Repairs on the building’s roof are expected to continue through Sunday, Jan. 29, and while the closure was initially set to lift that day, Toronto police say it will remain shut down until noon on Monday.

“The city encourages everyone to use caution in the area, plan alternate routes and consider taking public transit,” a city spokesperson said in a news release.

A Toronto police spokesperson tweeted about the hazard on Thursday, saying drivers should expect delays.
