Death of 25-year-old pedestrian in Toronto being treated as homicide

A 25-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Toronto’s east end and police officers say they’re treating the incident as a homicide.

Toronto police officers said they were called to the intersection of Danforth and Cedarvale avenues, just east of Woodbine Avenue, before 4 a.m. on Sunday with reports of a collision.

Investigators said the victim was drinking at a bar in the area as a suspect was speaking with people outside of the business.

Officers alleged the suspect left, went into a vehicle and drove it into the victim as he was walking on a sidewalk.

The man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries a short time later where he later died.

The victim was identified as Toronto resident Gabriel del Castillo Mullally.

It’s unclear if the victim and the suspect had any form of interaction.

The roads near the intersection were closed as officers gathered evidence, but were reopened Sunday afternoon.

Investigators said the accused, who hasn’t been publicly identified, was last seen heading west on Danforth Avenue toward Woodbine Avenue.

Officers said they were still looking to speak with witnesses and retrieve any surveillance video in the area.

Gabriel del Castillo Mullally is seen in an undated photo released by Toronto police.
