Video footage released of man wanted for assaulting woman in Markham

By Lucas Casaletto

York Regional Police are hoping to identify a man wanted in an assault after he allegedly grabbed a woman and forcefully dragged her between two houses in Markham.

Authorities say the incident happened between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 when a woman was walking through an alleyway from McCowan Road to Woodhall Road. It’s alleged a man appeared and assaulted the victim before dragging her between houses.

Police said sensor lights were activated after someone walked by with their dog, which forced the man to flee the scene.

In an update, investigators said it’s believed the man travelled on the TTC after attending Scarborough Town Centre that same evening. They’re concerned he followed other women before the assault.

Surveillance footage from the mall has been released by police in hopes it will help in identifying the wanted man. He’s described as five-foot-ten with a medium build and was last seen wearing a green coat, a hat with black gloves, black boots and camouflage pants.
