It’s starting to feel like early spring in the GTA this week as Toronto broke a weather record for Valentine’s Day previously set in 1984.

CityNews chief meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai says temperatures reached 9 C at Toronto Pearson on Tuesday, surpassing the old record for Feb. 14 of 8 C set 39 years ago.

Temperatures will climb even higher on Wednesday, reaching well into the double digits on what could be the warmest Feb. 15 in nearly 70 years.

“It’s still far from the warmest February day on record, 17.7 C set back on Feb. 23, 2017,” Ramsahai said. “We’ll come very close to that [Wednesday].”

A daytime high of 14 C is expected in Toronto on Wednesday, and high winds will follow the morning showers. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for strong gusts beginning in the afternoon.

“Temperatures are expected to soar into the low to mid double digits on Wednesday, making it feel more like late March or early April,” reads the weather statement.

“These warm temperatures will help create gusty conditions with wind gusts near 80 km/h expected.”

There will be a cooldown on Friday with a high near -4 C. Temperatures will be back on the plus side on the weekend, hovering around 5 C with a mix of sun and clouds.
