By Patricia D'Cunha

A man in his 70s suffered critical injuries following a two-alarm fire at a highrise in the Annex.

Fire crews were called to the fifth floor of a building on Bloor Street West near St. George Street around 6 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters rescued the man from an apartment unit, who paramedics say suffered critical burns.

The fire has since been knocked down but crews continue to ventilate the area and check on residents.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
