A former teacher in Burlington has been charged with the alleged sexual assaults of multiple students over 40 years ago.

Halton Regional Police said in June 2022, a male victim told investigators he was sexually assaulted in 1982-1983 while he was a Grade 8 student attending Pineland Public School in Burlington. The man claimed the woman was his teacher at the time.

Earlier this month, Halton Regional Police said a second male victim came forward alleging he, too, was sexually assaulted by the same teacher in Grade 8 at Pineland Public school in 1983-1984.

Investigators noted that the sexual assaults happened at the school.

On Wednesday, police arrested 85-year-old Barbara Baxter of Burlington. She’s been charged with sexual assault and acts of gross indecency. She was released on an undertaking.

Authorities said the latter charge was laid because the offences took place prior to the statutory amendments to the Criminal Code in 1983.

Before being employed by the Halton District School Board (HDSB), police said Baxter worked for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB). As a result, investigators believe there may be additional victims.
