Toronto police have charged two men in separate attacks on parking enforcement officers.
The first incident happened on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at around 4:07 p.m. in the Danforth Avenue and Kelvin Avenue area.
Police say a parking enforcement officer was ticketing a vehicle that was illegally parked when a man approached him from behind and slapped his hand.
The suspect then allegedly grabbed the officer’s handheld device and threw it to the ground before getting into his vehicle and driving away.
Later that same day, police arrested Douglas Maybury and charged with him a single count of assault.
On Thursday, Feb. 23, at around 9:30 p.m., police were called to the Yonge and Grenville streets area to assist a parking enforcement officer.
Police say the officer was working along Grenville Street when he was approached by an angry man who allegedly grabbed his hand, trying to take his handheld device.
“The man advanced toward the officer until the officer was backed up against his patrol vehicle,” police said in a release.
A few hours later, police arrested Murukathas Velmurukan, 38, of Brampton, and charged him with assaulting a peace officer.
