Snow and gusting winds on Monday turned to ice pellets overnight as a winter weather travel advisory comes to an end for Toronto and most of the GTA.
The storm left several centimetres of snow and the remaining freezing rain and drizzle is making for a slushy and slippery Tuesday morning commute.
CityNews 680 Chief Meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai said the heaviest of the snow ended for Toronto on Monday night with five centimetres having fallen at Pearson Airport.
Some overnight light snow switched to ice pellets and freezing rain as the morning arrived.
A winter weather travel advisory was in effect for Toronto and the GTA but has since been lifted.
Heaviest of the snow is over for #Toronto after @TorontoPearson reported 5 cm. Still light snow for now but next up are ice pellets and freezing rain/drizzle, starting to move into the west GTHA as warm air moves in aloft. This means it'll be icy. pic.twitter.com/1joRjCy2ea

The system moving through the region was expected to drop five to 10 centimetres with wind gusts reaching up to 60 km/h. Scattered showers are expected Thursday as temperatures rise to three degrees.
The City of Toronto said salting will begin as soon as the snow starts to accumulate and plowing with be activated when the snow has hit 2.5 centimetres for expressways and five centimetres for major roads, transit routes and streets with hills.
The TTC has also prepared for the storm with measures already underway from the transit agency’s enhanced severe weather plan, including anti-icing and snow clearing protocols in place for all buses, streetcar and subway divisions.
School buses have been cancelled for Zones 1, 2, and 3, in Durham Region, according to Durham Student Transportation Services. School remain open and buses are still running in Zone 4.
Monday’s storm follows a winter wallop last week that dropped snow and ice pellets across the city, causing travel delays, as well as some school closures and bus cancellations.
Another round of light snow could be in store for Wednesday, and a big snowstorm is possible on Friday.
