Taste of the Danforth returning in August after years-long hiatus

The Taste of the Danforth, one of Toronto’s most beloved street festivals, will be back this summer after it was shelved for several years due to logistic and pandemic-related issues.

GreekTown on the Danforth BIA Executive Director, Mary Fragedakis, confirmed on Wednesday that the event will take place between August 11 – 13, 2023.

“We just awarded the contract late in the day yesterday and as such have not had an opportunity to have a kick-off meeting with the producers,” she told CityNews.

“Further comment at this time is premature. We will have more to say in the coming weeks.”

Toronto-Danforth city councillor Paula Fletcher broke the good news on Tuesday night, tweeting that it’s “a go for 2023!”

Fletcher said the BIA, which organizes the festival, voted on Tuesday to hire an event planner to help “plan and execute this year’s Taste of the Danforth.”

It will be the first time since 2019 that the festival takes place.

Last year’s festival was cancelled with the BIA at the time citing citing streetscape challenges and adapting to CaféTO patio installations and bike lanes.

Questions continue following cancellation of Taste of the Danforth
