Police are investigating whether two separate shootings, one fatal, are connected after the victims were found in two different locations, in Vaughan and North York.
York Regional Police officers initially responded to the scene on Summeridge Drive near Dufferin Street and Highway 7 in Vaughan for a weapons call around 3:45 a.m. on Thursday.
Police told CityNews officers found a man at the side of a road with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
York police Sgt. Clint Whitney said multiple shots were fired in the area and the shooting is believed to have been targeted.
Police have taped off a section of the street and a townhouse complex.
One resident in the area told CityNews a bullet hit the garage of his parents’ townhouse in a row close to Summeridge.
Whitney said while officers were investigating this shooting, they were made aware of two people, a male and a female, who were found with gunshot wounds by Toronto police in North York.
Around 4 a.m., officers found the two victims on Skipton Court, near Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West, in North York. However, police said earlier the shooting initially occurred in York Region.

Paramedics transported the two victims to hospital with serious injuries, which police say are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police are looking into whether this incident is connected to the fatal shooting in Vaughan.
“We don’t know if this is definitively linked to [the Vaughan] shooting, but we are open to the possibility. It is an obvious coincidence,” Whitney said.
“We are working closely with Toronto police to establish whether or not the people found in Toronto were connected to the shooting that occurred [in Vaughan].”
Earlier in the day, police said the two victims found in North York were initially injured in York Region and that they received that incident as a weapons call.
So far, no arrests have been made and police haven’t released any suspect information.
It is not yet known if a gun was recovered at either scene.
