Honda recalling 500,000 vehicles to fix seat belt problem

Honda is recalling half a million vehicles in the U.S. and Canada over front seat belts that may not latch properly.

Some of the automaker’s top selling models are included in the recall, notably the 2017 through 2020 Honda CR-V, the 2018 and 2019 Honda Accord, the 2018 through 2020 Honda Odyssey, and the 2019 Honda Insight. The Honda Acura RDX 2019 and 2020 models are also included.

Honda says a manufacturing issue can cause the seat belt buckle channel to interfere with the release button, stopping the buckle from latching.

If the buckle doesn’t latch, a driver or passenger may not be restrained in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Honda says it has no reports of injuries caused by the problem.

Dealers will replace the release buttons or assemblies if needed. Owners of impacted vehicles will be notified by letter starting on April 17.
