Several residents were evacuated, and one person has been rushed to a trauma centre after a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood.

Toronto police and fire crews were called to the Jameson Avenue and King Street West apartment building just before 5 p.m. for reports of a fire on the fourth floor.

Officers said shelter buses were ordered for displaced residents, and others were evacuated from the five-storey building.

Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg later confirmed that three people were rescued from the structure fire, and one was rushed to a trauma centre.

“Our thoughts are with those injured in this fire,” Chief Pegg said.

The severity of the victim’s injuries is unclear.

The fire is now out, and crews are working to clear the smoke from the building. Ontario’s Fire Marshal has been notified.

Delays are expected in the area.
