CityNews captured this exclusive video on the subway tracks at Bloor-Yonge station. People were abruptly told to evacuate the station for safety.

Transit riders were left confused and concerned on Tuesday morning after an explosion and fire on the subway track at Bloor-Yonge station.

A fire ignited on the southbound tracks just north of the Line 1 platform around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Video from the scene shows a crowded TTC station noticing a bright explosion followed by a wall of flames at track level. Witnesses say the station was evacuated shortly after.

Toronto Fire extinguished the blaze, and smoke was cleared from the track tunnel.

At around 4:15 p.m. the TTC tweeted that full service had resumed on both lines.

“Great work by TTC crews to restore full service through Bloor-Yonge stations on both lines,” the TTC tweeted.

A spokesperson tells CityNews the fire appears to have started in an electrical control box. Crews cut power to the box when they arrived on the scene.

No injuries were reported.

During the outage, as many as 40 shuttle buses were running between the two stations.
