Gardiner re-opened after truck crashes through centre median causing morning traffic

The Gardiner Expressway has finally re-opened all lanes through Park Lawn Road after a truck crashed through a barrier on the highway and blocked traffic in both directions on Monday morning.

Toronto police responded to the crash just after 7:30 a.m. on the westbound Gardiner near Park Lawn Road.

Police say a westbound tractor-trailer lost control and crashed into the concrete centre median. The truck landed on top of the divider with its front-end sticking into the eastbound lanes and back-end impeding westbound lanes.

Multiple lanes were blocked in both directions for the collision cleanup, though traffic was squeezing through with major delays.

Police told CityNews they were working to have the lanes reopened in time for the afternoon rush, with all lanes opened just after 2:00 p.m.

Crews needed to replace a part of the median that was destroyed in the collision and cleanup a diesel fuel spill. A heavy tow was called in to take the disabled truck that was removed just before 2:00 p.m.

No injuries have been reported.
