A heat warning has been issued for all of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with a big push of warm and humid air expected to linger for most of the week.

Daytime high temperatures from Tuesday through early Thursday are expected to be around 30 C each day, feeling more like 37 to 40 with the humidity. Temperatures overnight will still be in the high teens or low 20s.

“In these types of conditions, it is important to stay cool and stay hydrated, especially if you are doing strenuous activity outdoors,” says CityNews 680 meteorologist Carl Lam. “Hot temperatures can also lead to somewhat poor air quality with ground level ozone as the primary concern.”

Young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors are at greater risk during periods of extreme heat. Environment Canada is reminding residents to never leave pets or people in cars unattended, for any amount of time, as temperatures inside parked vehicles increases significantly.

The heat and humidity will begin to relent on Wednesday evening heading into Thursday.
