4 men injured after vehicle flips while trying to flee police in Brampton, SIU investigating

Four men are in hospital with serious injuries after an overnight single-vehicle crash in Brampton.

Officers responded to the area of Torbram Road and Sandalwood Parkway East around 2:50 a.m. Monday for reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Police tell CityNews the vehicle, a white van which was hauling a camper, fled when officers arrived before crashing and flipping over a short time later.

“They’ve got three police cruisers surrounding the van and the trailer, with debris scattered all over the place,” says CityNews 680 traffic reporter Jordan Kerr, who flew over the scene in chopper 680. “Not too much damage to the van itself, but it did roll over and is still sitting on its side.”

The four men inside the vehicle were injured and taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police said all four were conscious and breathing.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate and has taken over the case. The SIU is called in when there is a serious injury, death, or allegation of sexual assault involving police.

Police said the intersection will remain closed for the course of the investigation.
