By James Mackin

The latest entry in the Insidious series is here! Will possession reign supreme, or could it go to a raunchy summer comedy? Perhaps a documentary about one of Canada’s most infamous websites? You’ll have to keep reading to find out!

Insidious: The Red Door

Where to watch: Cinemas

Let’s start off with some terrifying possession!

Insidious: The Red Door is the fifth film in the franchise, but it’s actually a direct sequel to the second film. This film once again stars Patrick Wilson (from Watchmen), who also directs this film, Rose Byrne (from Platonic) and Ty Simpkins (from the Whale) as the Lambert family. Now getting ready for college, the son Dalton is ready to move past his history of possession and astral projection. But while studying art, he notices that his paintings seem to bring out strange sensations and it seems like the creatures that possessed him previously may have followed him. This film also stars Hiam Abbass (from Succession), Lin Shaye (from a Nightmare on Elm Street), and Leigh Whannell (from Saw).

The Ashley Madison Affair

Where to watch: Disney+

Next up, a documentary about a controversial website!

The Ashley Madison Affair is a three part docuseries about the infamous dating website that helped people cheat on their spouses known as Ashley Madison. The Canadian website was created by Darren J. Morgenstern in the early 2000s, and boomed in popularity until a data breach in 2015. That data breach exposed many members, including most famously Josh Duggar of the TLC show 19 Kids and Counting. This documentary charts it all, from its rise in popularity to it’s doomed end.

He’s determined to get to the bottom of this mystery before the wedding, without putting the love of his life in the line of fire. This film also stars Poorna Jagannathan (from Never Have I Ever), Michael Rooker (from Guardians of the Galaxy), and Richard Kind (from Beau Is Afraid).

She doesn’t have any prospects, but an old friend (played by Alejandro Hernandez from New Amsterdam) helps her set up a not technically legal masseuse shop in his basement. When a client (played by Marc Maron from GLOW) gets a little handsy, she ends up accidentally killing him. Now she’s got to see which career has better prospects, masseuse or serial killer. This show also stars K. Todd Freeman (from A Series of Unfortunate Events), Jean Yoon (from Schitt’s Creek), and famous singer Cyndi Lauper.
