GO Transit Lakeshore East trains suspended late Friday until end of Sunday for construction

As the Ontario government looks to expand GO Transit train service, work is underway to create a new south concourse for passengers along with two new, wider platforms. Nick Westoll reports.

If you plan on travelling to or from Union Station in downtown Toronto along the GO Transit Lakeshore East line late Friday or over the weekend, be prepared to make alternate arrangements as train service will be suspended.

In a notice with schedule changes posted on the GO Transit website, officials said the train service suspension is due to track and signal maintenance between Danforth and Rouge Hill stations, platform work at Eglinton Station and Ontario Line-related bridge work.

The last westbound train on Friday will leave Oshawa GO station at 9:07 p.m. and the last eastbound train from Union Station will leave at 9:36 p.m.

WEEKEND NEED TO KNOW: Women’s World Cup, cultural festivals; road/TTC closures

After the last trains leave late Friday, replacement GO Transit buses will go into effect. The buses will go to and from Union Station and will service Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa stations. Customers were also encouraged to use buses on the 92 and 96 routes to avoid running into capacity issues.

There will be no GO bus service at Danforth, Scarborough, Eglinton, Guildwood and Rouge Hill stations, and those facilities will be served by existing TTC services.

Regular train service is expected to resume on Monday.
