Video shows Toronto officer getting struck by stolen vehicle; 2 teens arrested

A 17-year-old girl has been arrested after a Toronto Police officer was struck by car. The officer was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police have released video of the incident.

A 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with a Toronto police officer being struck in a hit-and-run in Parkdale on Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers were on bike patrol in the area of Jameson Avenue and King Street West when they spotted a stolen vehicle stopped in the northbound lanes.

As officers approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated towards both of them, causing one of them to abandon their bicycle, and hit the other officer, injuring them as they rolled onto the hood of another vehicle.

Video released by police shows the red sedan driving off through the intersection. The vehicle continued north on Jameson Avenue, later found abandoned in the Lansdowne Avenue and Queen Street West area.

The injured officer was taken to hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000, two counts of assault with a weapon or imitation weapon, two counts of dangerous operation with one inflicting bodily harm, assault causing bodily harm, leaving the accident scene causing bodily harm and theft exceeding $5,000.

She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, while the 15-year-old boy will appear in court on July 26, 2023.

They were not identified due to Ontario’s Youth Criminal Justice Act.
