Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette exits game vs. Guardians early with quad tightness

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette exited Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians after grounding out in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling reported the cause as tightness in Bichette’s right quadriceps muscle.

Matt Chapman also left the game, with Whit Merrifield hitting for the third baseman in the top of the sixth inning, though the cause as unknown.

Bichette was replaced by Santiago Espinal who took up duties at shortstop when the Blue Jays took to the field in the sixth.

Bichette previously missed 15 games due to patellar tendinitis after tweaking his right knee while rounding the bases during a game against the Baltimore Orioles on July 31. He made his return to the lineup on Aug. 19.

More to come.
