‘Don’t know what it was that hit it’: Ontario highway sign damaged, OPP search for culprit

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are searching for answers to explain why and how a highway sign was damaged last week.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the damaged sign is located at Hwy. 48 and Bloomington Road near Aurora.
“Fortunately, the main structure was not compromised. Otherwise, this whole sign would be lying down on the ground,” Sgt. Schmidt said, explaining that Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation discovered the damaged sign on August 25.
He said the debris was quickly removed.
“A vehicle, a truck or something large has hit this. It could be a vehicle with a dump box in an elevated position. We have seen that in the past,” Sgt. Schmidt said.
“I don’t know what it was that hit it… if you’ve seen a truck, maybe with some green paint on the front of its box… if you are that driver and don’t know what to do, you are required to report it to the OPP.”
No injuries were reported.
