A trespasser on the tracks resulted in subway service being suspended for several hours on a stretch of Line 1 on Tuesday night, frustrating commuters left stranded by the outage.
The closure, which started just before 6 p.m., originally stretched from Osgoode to Bloor-Yonge, but was later shortened from Osgoode to Dundas stations.
Full service on Line 1 resumed just before 9 p.m.
Police told CityNews on Wednesday morning that one person was arrested. Officers searched the tunnels but no other suspects were found.
Delays left TTC riders frustrated
CityNews spoke to one person who was on his way to the Blue Jays game at Rogers Centre when the subway was taken out of service, prompting him and other Jays fans to make a nearly three kilometre walk to the game.
“We got a notification saying we have to get off … because there’s people running between Spadina and St. Patrick I think, in the subway, on the tracks!” he said.
“The subway was packed with people going to the Blue Jays game, so all of us had to get off at Dundas and now we are all walking to the game.”
Some commuters vented their frustrations on social media.
I walked back to the office. Might as well get some work done.
