The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into the circumstances of the death of a 19-year-old man who jumped into the Niagara Falls Gorge.
Ontario’s police watchdog said Niagara Parks Police officers were attempting to look for a man in distress around 7 p.m. on Saturday. They located the 19-year-old in the River Road and Hiram Street area.
The SIU reported the man jumped over the barrier and fell into the Niagara Gorge. His body was found a short time later.
The SIU said one subject official and three witness officials have been designated.
Authorities are urging members of the public with information to come forward.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
