A firefighter is in hospital with serious injuries after responding to a two-alarm fire in the city’s northwest end.
Fire crews were called to a home on Vaughan Road west of Oakwood Avenue, near Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue, around 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg said the injured firefighter was quickly removed from the home and treated by paramedics at the scene before he was taken to hospital.
“We are certainly hopeful for a full and speedy recovery,” Pegg said.
Pegg also said five people inside the home were also injured in the fire, and two of them were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Paramedics initially said all five people were taken to hospital as a precaution, and that one of the injured suffered smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
