Missing 76-year-old woman found dead in wooded area: police

Tulip was last seen on September 29th and now Toronto Police say they found her body near Bayview and Lawrence. Michelle Mackey with the latest.

Police say a missing elderly woman last seen in Midtown Toronto nearly a week ago has been found deceased.

Toronto police Insp. Suzanne Redman said in a Friday afternoon update that 76-year-old Tulip’s body was discovered around 11:30 a.m. in a wooded area in the vicinity of Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East, just outside the area where police had been actively searching for her.

“This area has a number of trails and a member of the public found Tulip and called police,” said Redman. “This is obviously not the outcome that we were hoping for and our hearts go out to Tulip’s family and friends.”

According to police, Tulip was last seen on Sep. 30 walking towards the gates of Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery near Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East. Home surveillance footage showed the missing woman walking eastbound on Erskine Avenue towards the cemetery, which is connected to nearby Sherwood Park.

While police are still investigating the exact details that led up to Tulip’s death, Redman said there is nothing “suspicious” that would indicate foul play. An autopsy is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
