Toronto police are investigating a hate crime and searching for a man believed to be responsible for multiple acts of vandalism at an east-end mosque.

Just before 1 p.m. on Thursday, authorities were notified of a hate-motivated offence at a Riverdale mosque in the Danforth Avenue and Donlands Avenue area.

A male suspect allegedly left hateful writing on the front of the mosque. No one was injured.

An Imam at the mosque tells CityNews the building was defaced with human excrement which has been mostly removed.

Investigators believe this to be the same man from an incident on October 6 at approximately 7:30 p.m. at a mosque in the same area of Riverdale.

In that instance, officers said the man painted hate symbols on the front of the mosque.

The male suspect is described as approximately 30 years old with short hair. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket with patches on the sleeves, black pants, and black boots.

Police consulted with Toronto’s hate crime unit and determined that an investigation would be launched.

“The hate crime unit will be made aware, and specialized officers from that unit will support the investigation as needed,” a police spokesperson wrote.
