North York high school briefly locked down for 2nd day after false reports of person with machete

This is the second day in a row that Northview Heights Secondary School has been placed under lockdown over reports of a man in the area wielding a machete. Michelle Mackey has the latest from investigators and the TDSB.

A North York high school was temporarily placed in lockdown for the second day in a row as police investigated a false report of a masked person carrying a machete.

Officers were called to the area of Finch Avenue West and Bathurst Street around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after getting reports of a masked member among a group of males who was possibly holding a machete.

Police later updated that no weapon was actually seen by the person who reported seeing it. No injuries were reported.

Northview Heights Secondary School was placed in lockdown for precaution. The lockdown was lifted before 1 p.m.

“Following a thorough sweep of the building, Police indicated that there was no threat to the school and advised to downgrade the lockdown to a hold and secure at approximately 12:22 p.m. The hold and secure procedure included locking all exterior doors to our building and keeping students and staff indoors,” read a letter to parents and guardians sent on Tuesday.

The same school was temporarily placed in lockdown on Monday after a male youth was injured nearby after being attacked by a suspect allegedly armed with a machete.

Officers continue to search for the male suspect in Monday’s incident who was reportedly seen wearing a white “horror movie” ski mask and all-black clothing.
