Halton police recover $200K worth of stolen vehicles from Dubai

Halton police and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have recovered four stolen vehicles from Dubai, with an approximate value of $200,000.

This investigation relates to the March 2023 seizure of 24 stolen vehicles that were destined for re-sale in Dubai, including a $500,000 Rolls Royce, which was valued collectively at around $2.1 million.

On Wednesday, Halton police said four stolen vehicles were previously flagged as part of that case, but authorities were unable to have two shipping containers carrying the stolen cars turned around before reaching Dubai.

The shipping containers were re-routed to Canada, and in late January, authorities recovered one Lexus SUV initially stolen from Halton Region, two Ford-150s stolen from Peel Region and Toronto, and one Land Rover Range Rover also stolen from Peel Region.

The value of those four cars is approximately $200,000.

“These vehicles are primarily ‘reprogrammed’ thefts wherein the suspects enter the vehicle and reprogram the ignition computers, which allow them to be driven away using a new key,” a police spokesperson wrote in a news release.

“The vehicles are then either driven to the Port of Montreal or loaded into shipping containers in Toronto and transported to Montreal by rail.”

No arrests have been made.
