Teen among 2 armed suspects arrested in Peel Region after alleged North York carjacking

A 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man are facing charges after being tracked down by police in Mississauga following an armed carjacking in North York over the weekend.

Around 1:30 a.m. on March 3, Toronto police were made aware of a carjacking that occurred in the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Don Mills Road.

A driver told police they had parked their vehicle when they were approached by two males suspects, one armed with a handgun and another holding a knife.

The suspects allegedly demanded the driver’s car keys, got into the vehicle and took off from the scene.

A few hours later, Peel Regional Police officers stopped the alleged stolen vehicle in Mississauga. The two suspects tried to flee police on foot but were taken into custody with the help of the canine unit.

Ferdous Qurishie, of Oshawa, is charged with robbery with firearm, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime.

A 17-year-old boy, who is from Toronto, was charged with robbery with firearm, disguise with intent, weapons dangerous, and possession of property obtained by crime. The teen cannot be identified due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
