Woman sought for allegedly stealing apartment deposits in Toronto rental scam, police say

Toronto police are trying to track down a woman who allegedly stole deposits from people looking for apartments in Toronto.
Investigators say between June 2023 and August 2023 the woman advertised apartments for rent in Toronto on various websites.
Eager apartment hunters would provide deposits in hopes of securing the rentals. But police say the woman would later inform them that the apartments were no longer available, and subsequently vanish with their money.
“The victims then discovered the woman was not authorized to show or rent the apartments,” police said.
The suspect has been identified as Lariza Resendez Lopes, 26, of Toronto. She’s wanted for fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Investigators say the suspect managed to dupe “multiple” people and claimed to be operating under the company names “TorontoRental.org” and “LRLManagement”.
