City council has approved the renaming of the route from Nathan Phillips Square to Rogers Centre to “Taylor Swift Way” for her six-concert run in November.
Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie introduced the motion at council Thursday and it was approved 21-1 with only Councillor Josh Matlow voting against the signs.
The route along John Street and Queen Street West will see signs replaced “Taylor Swift Way” for the entire month of November 2024.
An honourary sign to mark the concert venue as “1 Taylor Swift Way” will also be displayed. The costs of the signs are being covered by Rogers, the event organizer.
The Toronto sign will be lit in red on the concert dates, Nov. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23, 2024.
At the end of the run, all the honourary signs will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank and auctioned off in support of the organization.
City Council also directed the General Manager of Economic Development to provide a briefing to councillors after the event that would include the revenue generated to the municipal, provincial and federal governments and include any lessons learned for events of this size.
Swift will be the first artist ever to perform a six-show stint at the downtown Toronto stadium. It will also mark her first Canadian tour dates since 2018.
The singer began her Eras Tour earlier last year, performing songs from her chart-topping career against the backdrop of an elaborate stage design for each album and is currently touring in Europe.
Tickets have been hard to score for the event with the cheapest tickets available on resell sites going for upwards of $3,500 each.
Rogers is the presenting sponsor of the Taylor Swift concerts in Toronto.
