For months, coyotes have been spotted in Liberty Village, and residents say little has been done to solve the issue.

“It’s really really scary, because my neighbour, her dog got attacked,” says Sloane, Liberty Village resident.

The increase in coyote sightings has left everyone in the community on edge, especially dog owners.

“They don’t care, they’re like, we don’t have enough reports, we don’t have enough whatever, there’s nothing we can do,” says Sloane, dog owner of three.

Experts say coyotes are rarely dangerous to humans but urge pet owners to use vigilance. Coyotes are commonly seen in January and February during the breeding season.

“They turn really nocturnal; they do most of their movements at night when there are fewer people around,” says Justina Ray, President of Wildlife Conservation Society Canada.

Ray says never to feed wildlife and to report any aggressive coyote behaviour.

“You’ll have to make yourself bigger, you’ll have to wave your arms, never run away, look them in the eye if you’re close and make lots of noise, ” says Ray.
