By Devon Robertson

A man has been arrested in Waterloo following a hate-motivated incident last Thursday.

Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) says the incident took place in a building on King Street North near Elgin Street at roughly 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 2.

It says a victim in the building was approached by an unknown man who began to make racial and derogatory remarks at them, following them throughout the building, and continuing to utter threats before fleeing the scene.

Officers launched an investigation and on Jan. 4 police arrested a 34-year-old man. He has now been charged with multiple offenses including criminal harassment, uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death, and possession of stolen property.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
