SIU probing woman’s fatal fall from apartment balcony in High Park

The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a woman fell to her death from a balcony at an apartment building in High Park.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Toronto police officers called to 100 High Park Avenue near Bloor Street West and Keele Street at around 2 a.m. on Monday in search of a wanted person.

According to the SIU, officers spoke to a woman who then attempted to scale down the balcony of an apartment. She fell and was located on the ground.

The woman was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It’s unclear if the woman was the wanted suspect being tracked by Toronto police.

The province’s police watchdog said four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. Her post-mortem is scheduled for Wednesday.

The SIU is urging anyone with information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact them.

The SIU is an independent civilian agency that probes incidents where people died or were seriously injured. Investigators also review incidents where sexual assault has been alleged or a firearm was discharged at a person.
