Man and woman from Oshawa charged in Annex homicide investigation

A man and woman from Oshawa have been charged in connection with the death of a 27-year-old man in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood last month.

Police responded to a call just after 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 about a “wounding” at Bloor Street and Madison Avenue, near the University of Toronto.

Upon arrival, officers located 27-year-old Darapheakdey “Daral” Sovann with severe injuries. First aid was administered at the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Photos from the scene showed a large area cordoned off by police tape and evidence markers on the ground near Paul Martel Park. There were also evidence markers at a secondary scene near Bloor and Spadina.

Investigators have not indicated what type of weapon was used to inflict the man’s injuries.

On Saturday, police announced the arrest of 24-year-old Brooklynn Walsh and 21-year-old Cameron Brown of Oshawa. They are both facing charges of second-degree murder. No further details were released.

This is Toronto’s first homicide of 2025.
