Snowfall warnings have ended as Toronto and the GTA are digging out from the largest, one-day snowfall to hit the region in almost two years after a fast-moving low-pressure system pushed through Ontario Saturday night.
Officials at Pearson Airport say they received 15 cm of snowfall – the most they have seen this winter. While they are not reporting any significant delays in their operations on Sunday, they suggest anyone flying today check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
The Weather Network says the 15 cm is the largest, one-day snowfall since March 3, 2023.
According to Environment Canada, Oakville received 19 cm of snow while Cambridge and Kitchener got 17 cm and 16 cm respectively. Downtown Toronto recorded 13 cm while Hamilton saw 10 cm.
City of Toronto officials say they have been out plowing major roads and transit routes and will get to secondary streets throughout Sunday.
Toronto is expected to get a bit of a reprieve before the next snow event moves in by mid-week.
“Originally it was going to be here on Thursday but the latest models, it’s putting it into Wednesday night for us across the GTA,” said 680 NewsRadio meteorologist Carl Lam.
“Expect some snow showers to pick up as we go into Wednesday evening but then continuing into the overnight hours of Thursday and Thursday morning.”
