Peel Regional Police are investigating after a man was found dead following a shooting in Mississauga late Friday night.
According to authorities, the shooting happened just before 10 p.m. in the city’s Malton neighbourhood, near Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive.
Police say they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
“Police officers, as well as emergency services, responded, and they rendered first aid to the victim. He was transported from the scene to a local hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” said Cst. Taylor Halfyard.
Investigators have not released the victim’s identity or age, and there was no immediate suspect description or the circumstances that may have led up to the shooting.
Residents tell CityNews police were focused on a grey sedan that had crashed into a tree, which allegedly had several bullet holes.
“I saw the smashed-up car just in front of my house, there on the tree,” said Margaret Singh. “The car was all smashed up, all the front was damaged, but nobody was inside. But then this morning, my son said somebody got shot in the car, and he died.”
Singh added she also saw a woman taken by police, but was unsure if she was involved in the crash.
While police confirmed the crash, they would not say if it was the victim who was driving.
