Bloor-Yonge intersection reopens after ice falls from two buildings

The intersection of Bloor and Yonge Streets has reopened after ice fell from buildings in the area.

Toronto police closed Yonge from Bloor to Hayden Street in both directions shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The area reopened around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

It was confirmed large chunks of ice fell from two separate buildings.

One man told 680 NewsRadio he was walking in the area when the incident first started.

“A bunch of ice falling off the building, crashes onto the ground as the cars are going by. It was just melting off the top of the towers,” he said, adding that the ice that fell was “anywhere from little pieces to pieces that were a foot in diameter.”

“I didn’t see any people get hit, they were all aware, they were all walking underneath this overhang.”

Police say no injuries have been reported.
