High-risk offender arrested again in Guelph, hours after release

By Erin Anderson

A high-risk offender who has been the subject of several police warnings the past few years was once again arrested in Guelph, just hours after he was released from custody.

Guelph police say a 37-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon for breaching release conditions.

A spokesperson for the Guelph Police Service confirms the man is Medhani Yohans, who has been described as a high-risk offender who poses a particular risk to women.

Guelph police say Yohans has a history of violence, including sexual assaults on strangers.

Yohans’ latest arrest happened the same day he was released from Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton.

He was bound by several probation orders which included a ban on attending downtown Guelph, where he was observed and arrested.

Yohans faces nine counts of breaching probation and remains in custody until his next court appearance on Friday.
