Elderly woman in hospital following late night fire

A mattress fire sent a woman in her 90s to hospital with severe burns late Sunday.
Toronto Fire was called out to a two-alarm fire at a ground floor apartment at 93 Edgewood Ave., near Dundas and Kingston Road, around 11:30 p.m. Some other residents in the building were forced out of their homes for a short time.
Authorities said the flames appear to have started in a mattress. The elderly woman inside the apartment was taken to Toronto East General hospital for severe burns and smoke inhalation. She’s listed in serious condition.
No other injuries were reported.
