They were sitting outside in the waning heat of a late spring night, when suddenly they felt the impact.
That’s how the G.T.A.’s latest shooting mystery began during the dinner hour Thursday night.
Police and paramedics raced to an industrial mall on Jevlan Drive near Highway 7 and Weston Road after receiving reports that three people had been shot in what authorities were calling an “ambush”.
The wounded trio was at a social club, when a gunman appeared and opened fire.
“My information is that they were outside the establishment, sitting at tables,” explains Staff Sgt. Don Hunt of York Regional Police.
“It’s unusual for this area. Gun violence is on the rise. Shots were fired, three people were hit and the vehicle fled the scene.”
Despite the initial lack of information, cops swooped down on a home in a nearby residential neighbourhood following a lead that came from a license plate.
It was later announced that the home’s residents were not suspects, but were being interviewed by police.
Meanwhile, an air ambulance was sent to the scene to take one of the wounded men to hospital. The other two followed by more conventional means.
A 55-year-old Bolton man was the most seriously injured and remains in stable condition in the critical cure unit.
A 26-year-old male is still being treated but is expected to recover.
The final victim, a 56-year-old, was treated and released.
A source close to CityNews suggests one or more of the victims are related to former mobster Enio Mora, whose bullet-riddled body was found in the trunk of his Cadillac in Vaughan back in 1996.
Cops are searching for a lone gunman described as:
- White,
- 25-28
- Average build,
- 5’8″
- 170 lbs.,
- Short, dark hair that was longer on top
