Apartment Tenants Without Electricity Since Friday

Sophia Victor (pictured) isn’t a world class athlete, but she’s training like one, whether she likes it or not.   Several times a day Victor is forced to descend and climb 70 flights of stairs after the power at her  Mississauga apartment complex at 2247 Hurontario St. , was turned off following an electrical fire.   It’s been down for four days now, and there’s no telling when it will be back.

“It’s pure hell,” Victor barks.   “We’re not taking it any more.”

“Approximately 1,000 people (live in the building), give or take. I’m turning the light on. I’m turning the light off. You see nothing. From since Friday, we have no electricity in here, no hot water. Everything in the fridge, I had to throw out. Everything in there is spoiled. And the fridge stinks.”

Mississauga Hydro says they can’t turn the power back on until the landlord fixes the damage caused from the fire, and there’s been no definitive answer as to when that will happen, leaving residents like Victor in the dark.

“I can’t answer that question (when it will be back),” admits senior property manager Harold Best.    “What I can tell you, we are working diligently to restore the power.”
